Sri Lanka is well known for its unique sweets and desserts originated in the country, many years ago. Usually “desserts” are served after the main meals and “sweets” are served in the morning and afternoon tea times. Many Sri Lankan sweets contain domestic spices and syrup (treacle) extracted from the sap of coconut or kithul (Caryota urens) palm trees. In addition to that, many other coconut products such as shredded coconut, coconut milk, and coconut oil are commonly used when preparing those sweets.
